West Ham are said to want £84m for former Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes, according to Football Insider, after signing him for around £38m last summer.

Saints supporters have enjoyed a strong Championship campaign under Tonda Eckert, even if the mood has been dulled by Spygate as they head into the playoff final.

Southampton landed Fernandes from Sporting for £15m and he impressed in the Premier League with two goals and four assists, plus an average of 5.8 duels won per match.

At the London Stadium this season he has six goal contributions and averages 5.5 duels won, and Manchester United are reportedly keen as they search for a long-term Casemiro successor.

Back at St Mary’s, the loss has been cushioned by Flynn Downes, Shea Charles and Caspar Jander. Southampton are one match from a Premier League return, which could bring Fernandes back as a visitor valued at £84m.
