Westerlo have announced the signing of Pape Diong from Strasbourg. The 20-year-old central midfielder leaves Strasbourg to sign a four year deal with Westerlo. The Belgian Pro League side have been terrible defensively so far this season, conceding 12 goals in just three games. Westerlo fans and the club will be hoping that Diong, who plays as a defensive midfielder, can help protect a backline that is still getting used to playing with each other.
Diong leaves Strasbourg having played 11 games for the first team since making his debut during the 2024/2025 season, scoring one goal. Last season he spent the campaign on loan at Dunkerque in the second tier of French football. Diong played 28 games for the side from the north of France, providing one assist. With playing time limited back in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg, Diong now gets a chance to play meaningful first team football in the Belgian Pro League with Westerlo. Clearly, Senegal see Diong as one for the future as well, having already given him a cap at senior level when he was a teenager.
