Two sides on a poor run of form meet on Friday night in the Pro League when KV Mechelen travel to play Westerlo. Both have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, and neither has won in their last four. Mechelen are struggling with a number of injuries to key players, while key players for Westerlo appear to be out of form.
The home side were victorious in the reverse fixture at the start of August. They scored four to Mechelen’s two, the same amount of goals they have scored in their past four matches. At home, the side have a decent record. They have won four, drawn three and lost two. They have scored 20 and conceded 12. Former Hull City man Allahyar Sayyadmanesh leads the side with six goals and four assists, while striker Matija Frigan also has six goals.
Mechelen have the seventh best away record in the league this year. The side have won two, drawn two and lost four. They have only scored 10 goals away from home, compared to an impressive 24 back at home (albeit in two more games). They have conceded 12 on their travels. Benito Raman, who had to leave the field due to an injury in the sides draw against Antwerp, leads the side with six goals.
A win for Mechelen will keep themselves in the hunt for a top six finish to end the year, while Westerlo could do with a win to start building a gap to the bottom four.
