Grêmio have agreed a deal to sign 38-year-old goalkeeper Weverton following his departure from Palmeiras, with the player preparing to travel to Porto Alegre for medicals and to sign.
According to Gremistas.net, he is scheduled to arrive at Salgado Filho Airport on Friday 16 at 11:40. After landing, he will go to CT Luiz Carvalho to visit the facilities and complete the planned procedures.
There is no projection yet for Weverton’s first match for Grêmio. The club plan to field a near full-strength side for their Campeonato Brasileiro opener on 28 January, away to Fluminense.
Before that, the Gre-Nal derby is set for 25 January at Beira-Rio, in the fifth round of the Campeonato Gaúcho’s qualifying phase. It is seen as the season’s first major test and will help coach Luis Castro gauge early form.
Until Weverton debuts, Gabriel Grando remains Grêmio’s starting goalkeeper. He recently extended his contract, which now runs until December 2029.
