Manchester United registered a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils dominated proceedings against the Norwegian champions, but their defensive showing has to improve if they want to win the European competition.

There were some stand-out performers in the game and midfielder Mason Mount was particularly impressed by the performance of Noussair Mazraoui in defence.

The Morocco international was exceptional on the right side of the back three versus Ipswich Town last weekend and he retained his position against Bodo/Glimt last night.

It was a fantastic all-round display with 139 touches, 114 passes and eight recoveries. He also won six duels alongside five clearances. Mazraoui completed 100 percent of his crosses and bagged an assist too.

Shortly after the game, the 27-year-old thanked the fans for their support on Instagram.

Mount was particularly impressed with the defender’s display. He commented: ‘What a player’.

Mazraoui’s transfer to Old Trafford did not receive a huge reception from the fans. There was more excitement over Matthijs de Ligt’s arrival from Bayern Munich instead.

However, the former Ajax man has turned out as the better signing from Bayern. He has been tremendous from every position he has played and looks a perfect player for United.

After stand-out displays at right-back and left-back, Mazraoui could become a regular starter in central defence, judging by his performances under manager Ruben Amorim.

United now have a busy period in the Premier League with three games in the space of one week. They host Everton on Sunday before a testing trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.

They will entertain Nottingham Forest at home on December 7. The Red Devils are already six points behind the top four and can’t afford to drop points in any of those fixtures.
