It was a bit of an odd transfer – first rumoured in January, then not actually taking place until late August. There were plenty of questions about whether Chelsea needed him – or whether they should be buying players who their rivals are bombing out pretty unceremoniously.

While he’s not 100% convinced everyone yet, he’s made good progress towards doing so. He’s certainly impressed Enzo Maresca, and has made himself the team’s first choice left winger.

The piece from Sam Cohen goes into some detail about how Garnacho is going above and beyond to make and keep that good favour.

“Chelsea staff at Cobham have been encouraged by Garnacho’s attitude and intensity in training. He has shown the same direct, fearless attacking play that made him such an exciting prospect at Manchester United, while also working hard to refine his decision-making in the final third,” Cohen writes.

“Coaches are said to appreciate his willingness to stay behind after sessions to sharpen his finishing and crossing, viewing that dedication as a strong indicator of his mindset.”

That is certainly a very positive indicator. If he can continue delivering dangerous crosses and cutbacks from teh left, he will already be offering exactly what we want from him.

In other news…

Moises Caicedo has been praised by former Blue Claude Makelele, who pointed to some of the things he liked most in the midfielder’s game.

Cole Palmer and Benoit Badiashile are both out injured right now but expected back later this month – Enzo Maresca used his presser today to give an update on their progress and likely return date.
