In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of today’s game against Aston Villa, Enzo Maresca spoke a little about his comments from a couple of weeks ago about a lack of support he felt at Chelsea, which ended up becoming a huge talking point.

Enzo Maresca smiles ahead of Aston Villa clash.
“No, it becomes annoying that after two or three weeks, we are still talking about the same thing. I can understand that in the media in the days after that it can cause some reaction, that I cannot control,” the manager said when asked if it was annoying that people were still talking about it.
“But what annoys me is that after two or three weeks, we are still talking about the same thing when I’ve already clarified that there is not any problems with ones above, that I said one week ago before the Newcastle game.”
Sadly, that’s just how it is. The press try to get managers to say something interesting, and the managers try not to say anything interesting because they know it will be all over the back pages.
The lack of interesting things being said by anyone means that when someone slips up and says something interesting by accident (as Maresca did) it gets massively blown out of proportion and is spoken about for weeks.
That’s just the nature of it.
Maresca was also asked about Chelsea’s record against the top teams in the league and admitted there was room for improvement in that area as they prepare to take on an in-form Villa team who have surged ahead of them in the table.
Chelsea and Villa have very similar strengths and weaknesses, but Sky Sports’ predictors reckon our opposition are better set up to take advantage of ours than we are to take advantage of theirs. Do you agree?
