Paris Saint-Germain have been monitoring Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich for months and nearly signed him last summer. Nonetheless, Bayern Munich believe they are on the right track to extend the veteran midfielder.

Barcelona are reportedly interested in Joshua Kimmich, as well as Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, as they look to bolster their midfield and defense for the 2025 season.

According to journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl, Bayern Munich have given up on persuading Kimmich to accept a pay cut from his current €20 million annual salary.

With his contract set to expire next year and top clubs showing increasing interest, the chances of him agreeing to a reduced deal now seem slim.

Kimmich can talk to clubs and sign a pre-contract that will begin next season. Still, Bayern Munich club chief Max Eberl believes that the club and player are heading in a positive direction to extend his contract.

“We had very, very good talks with Kimmich over new deal,” Eberl said. “We hope that we can close the next deal. He should become the new captain once Neuer retires. So now we hope to get it over the finish line.”

Bild reported that Kimmich had still been in talks with Bayern about a potential contract renewal but hadn’t decided yet.

He had also been in discussions with other clubs and remained undecided about whether to leave Germany. His future was still uncertain as negotiations continued.

Meanwhile, CaughtOffside recently reported that Liverpool had reached out to Kimmich in early January to discuss a possible move for next season and planned to follow up soon.

After missing out on Martin Zubimendi last summer, the club had turned its attention to Kimmich as his contract wound down. Manchester City had also been keeping tabs on Kimmich, while Real Madrid and PSG were reportedly in the mix as well.
