Cameron Archer has sent a message to Southampton supporters after netting a late winner away to Swansea City

Southampton's remarkable run of form continues, with their 2-1 away win over Swansea City extending their unbeaten run to 19 games without defeat in all competitions, as Cameron Archer's late winner continues to propel the Saints up the Championship table.

Tonda Eckert's turnaround at Southampton cannot be understated.

When the German took charge in early November following the dismissal of Will Still, the Saints were frantically looking over their shoulder towards the relegation zone. Now, automatic promotion is still a real possibility, after a truly historic run of form.

Their 2-1 win away to Swansea City on Saturday perfectly encapsulates how they have been playing under Eckert as of late, with Cameron Archer's late winner confirming all three points would be heading back to Hampshire.

Southampton had initially fallen behind in the 20th minute, but two second-half goals from Shea Charles and Archer have put Southampton just one point behind Ipswich Town and Millwall, albeit with one more game played than the two promotion rivals.

Archer has had a difficult season at St Mary's, but Eckert's recent trust in the Englishman could be the perfect storm for him and the club, as he sends a message to Saints fans following his dramatic late winner.

It hasn't exactly been a vintage year for Archer.

Ever since joining Southampton in the summer of 2024 from Aston Villa for £15 million, the Englishman has struggled in front of goal in both the first and second tiers, netting just three last season and seeing his game time slashed this year.

Archer has started just nine league games for the Saints this campaign, with the likes of Kurya Matsuki, Leo Scienza, Tom Fellows, Finn Azaz, and Samuel Edozie for competition, though despite this, he has found himself back amongst the goals as of late.

Having netted against Blackburn Rovers in the previous game, Archer was introduced from the bench with just minutes remaining against Swansea, and rifled the ball beyond Lawrence Vigouroux in goal to give Southampton a vital three points.

Following his late winner, Archer has sent a message to Saints supporters via Instagram.

Sharing photos of him and his teammates celebrating his late winner, Archer's rallying cry to Southampton supporters reminds them that the job is far from done, as with three games to go and nine points still up for grabs, automatic promotion is still a real possibility, something the Saints squad will be cautiously aware of.

19 games unbeaten in all competitions, and 11 wins out of their 12, with players and fans all coming together at Southampton, there is no reason to believe that they can't go on and win their final three and seriously challenge for the top two.

A home clash against Bristol City on Tuesday awaits them, followed by a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, with a potential promotion-deciding battle at home to Ipswich after that.

Archer is hitting form at just the right time, and with confidence flowing through his and his teammates' veins, something special could well be happening in Hampshire.

Tonda Eckert has utilised his Southampton squad to perfection after Cameron Archer's late winner

In what is his first job as a head coach in first-team football, having previously been in charge of Southampton's Under-21's side, Eckert cannot get enough credit for the job he has done thus far with the Saints.

With the club embroiled in a battle towards the foot of the table, it would have been very easy for the German to capitulate and head in the wrong direction. But instead, he has only looked up, with Southampton being arguably the best side in the league after Christmas.

Eckert has used his squad to perfection, carefully balancing game time throughout the squad, in particular in the attacking third, with Archer now earning more minutes both from the start and from the bench.

So far, there has been little to fault Eckert on, and with three games to go, he has the chance to write his name into Southampton folklore, and Archer can help him do just that.
