Parma signed American midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi on loan from Inter Miami in the summer. He has, perhaps understandably not played for them so far and is presumably acclimatizing to the demands of European football. But the recent U-20 World Cup provided an insight into the talents of the player.
Cremaschi is an all-action midfielder who grew to prominence at Miami having come through their academy. He is part Argentine but has already played for the senior USMNT and will definitely be in the reckoning for the World Cup squad next year.
Physically, Cremaschi is brilliant. He is relentless in and out of possession and can cover ground more than most. His awareness is ever improving which is a great sign. He can be utilised as a box-to-box midfielder but his best role is as an advanced 8.
Cremaschi was the Golden Boot winner in the U-20 World Cup previously mentioned. That is because he excels in getting into the box and at end of chances. At Inter Miami, for this reason, he benefitted a lot from the service provided by Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. Cremaschi will be someone who gets the goals.
His passing isn’t the best nor are his defensive qualities but his relentless nature in and out of possession can paper over these cracks a bit. Think of him as a budget Jude Bellingham or someone with a similar profile to Scott McTominay.
That being said, Cremaschi is only 20 with plenty of experience under his belt. This Parma spell is his first foray in Europe. There’s enough for Parma and Serie A fans to be excited. USMNT fans have a new star to support in Serie A and with the home World Cup coming, he will be getting plenty of attention.
