According to Fabrizio Romano, Charleroi defender Jeremy Petris is set to depart Belgium and join Watford. The fee, according to Romano, will see Watford part with just €2m to bring Petris in. He is expected to act as a replacement for Ryan Andrews who is departing the club. So, what can Watford fans expect from Patris?
Petris joined Charleroi from Levski Sofia midway through he 2023/2024 season and immediately impressed. The right-back really came into his own under head coach Rik De Mil and was a key player as the side qualified for European football last season. Petris played 37 games across all competitions for Charleroi, providing four assists. De Mil prefers an attacking approach and Petris, despite being a full-back, was often pushing forward to help create chances and create width for the side. Petris is very much a modern full-back and should be able to deal with the physicality of the Championship.
According to FotMob, Petris created 32 chances last season for Charleroi, one of the best for a right-back in the Belgian Pro League. He also had one of the highest dribble success numbers for players in his position with 46.
At the other end of the pitch, Petris won 67.2% of his tackles and 63.8% of his aerial duels. Petris is also well disciplined, with just 10 yellow cards in 56 games for the club since he joined.
For Charleroi, losing Petris will be a blow. The side do have options in that position with Zan Rogelj, but the Slovenian has not yet shown to be of the same level as Petris.
