Birmingham City fans have reacted to Chris Davies' post-match interview following late defeat away to Queens Park Rangers

Having scored a late equaliser courtesy of Patrick Roberts away to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night, Birmingham City thought they had snatched a point to take back to the Midlands, only for Kieran Morgan to drive home late on to secure all three points for the R's, much to the misery of Blues supporters.

Birmingham City fans endured a rollercoaster of emotions in the closing stages of their Tuesday night match away to QPR, having equalised in the 93rd minute, only to concede a winner just three minutes later.

This resided the Blues to their second consecutive loss in a row following defeat away to Southampton at the weekend, this being just the second time the club have lost back-to-back games this season.

Having romped to the League One title with a record number of points, much was expected of the Blues following their promotion back to the second tier, and whilst they still sit well within the play-off picture, many Birmingham fans will have expected a bit more.

The club sit on 28 points, three points off the play-off places, behind Tuesday night's victors QPR in sixth. Though with the Championship as wide open as ever, many Birmingham fans will have hoped that their side would have produced more at this stage, and many have chosen to vent their frustration following late heartbreak on social media.

A late defeat is almost never going to go down well amongst a fanbase, and Birmingham are no exception to that, with many fans understandably frustrated with the result, but the performance as well.

In truth, anything other than a home win for QPR would have been justified based on the stats, with QPR out-shooting the Blues for 16 shots to three, with Birmingham having just one shot on target for the entire match.

It would be fair to suggest that Birmingham fans were far from pleased by what their side produced on the evening.

Indeed, Birmingham had over 60% possession of the ball, but did little with it, citing huge frustration from Blues supporters, who would clearly rather see their team attack the opposition instead of passing the ball around the back.

Birmingham clearly prefers to play a slower, possession-based style of football under Davies', as they did in League One, but against tougher opposition who will be better defensively and harder to break down, they simply must explore a different way to play.

Of the eight league games that Birmingham have lost this season, seven have been away from home, as it remains clear that Davies simply must adapt his side for away games, as what works at home isn't working away.

Clearly, there is an expectation among the Birmingham supporters that they should be higher than where they are, and after a record-breaking points haul just last season, it's to be expected.

Blues sit in the bottom five for their away record in the league this season, as fans have openly identified where the club needs to improve should they make a serious push for promotion this season.

Failure to do so will make their promotion ambitions all the more difficult, having to rely on their home form, and could, in the most extreme sense, result in Davies being dismissed sooner rather than later.

Birmingham City remain in the play-off picture despite a late defeat away to QPR

Despite slipping to yet another away defeat in the league, Birmingham sit well within reach of the play-off picture, just three points off QPR in sixth.

Had they held on for a point, they would sit just one point outside the top six in what is proving to be a season of fine margins.

Any place in the top six is seemingly up for grabs this campaign, with Coventry City's lead at the top of the table halving from ten points to just five in less than a week, the world's most exciting division, you would imagine, is still full of many twists and turns to come.

For Birmingham, they simply must address their away form sooner rather than later if they are to announce themselves as serious contenders for promotion, with it being the general consensus that a top-six finish is the minimum expectation for the club this season.
