Christian Fuchs was appointed as Newport County manager earlier this month
Christian Fuchs has made contact with his former club Leicester City about retaining loanees Sammy Braybrooke and Nathan Opoku beyond their January deals.
The pair both arrived at the League Two side in the summer transfer window, agreeing loan deals that will keep them there until the winter market.
Fuchs has taken charge of the Welsh outfit, with the team in danger of suffering relegation from the fourth division.
Braybrooke has been a key figure for the side since arriving from the Foxes, featuring in 11 of their 17 games so far this season.
Meanwhile, a knee injury kept Opoku on the sidelines for a number of weeks, but he has still excelled when available, registering two goals and one assist from five appearances in League Two.

Fuchs was appointed by Newport on 20 November, and he has wasted no time in making contact with his former club regarding the two impressive youngsters.
He revealed that Opoku is close to making a return to the side after taking part in training earlier this week, and that the manager will now do everything in his power to ensure the pair remain with the club beyond the January window.
"I spoke to Leicester about Sammy and Nathan already," said Fuchs, via South Wales Argus.
"I will do everything to keep them on board with us to the end of the season.
“I think they are crucial in our play, Sammy especially has done really well and it will be really important to keep those two on board.
"Nathan joined training on Monday, full training, which I was very happy about.
“He is not there yet to start but he can give us a good few minutes to help us."
Newport suffered a 3-0 defeat to Oldham Athletic in Fuchs’ first game in charge, with the Austrian taking on his first role in management.
The 39-year-old previously spent six years as a player at Leicester, and was a part of the side that won both the Premier League and the FA Cup.
His team currently sit bottom of the League Two table after 17 games, five points adrift of safety already.
Meanwhile, Leicester are 15th in the Championship table after a 3-0 loss of their own midweek to Southampton.

Braybrooke and Opoku have performed well for Newport despite the club’s difficult start to the season, and it’s clear Fuchs sees a place for them in the team.
His connection with Leicester may help convince the Championship side to let the duo remain with the Welsh outfit for the second half of the campaign.
As long as they are getting regular minutes at senior level, the 21 and 24-year-old will be benefitting from this loan move.
