Demolition is under way at Selhurst Park, and Crystal Palace fans heading to Friday’s first Premier League home match of the season against Manchester City will notice significant changes. More than eight years after initial permission, work began this summer to replace the 102-year-old Main Stand and upgrade the ground. Main Stand extensions and lounges have gone, the fan zone is removed, temporary hospitality erected, an Eagle’s Nest concourse added, and the Wright & Bright bar extended.

The programme is slated to take two and a half years across five stages, with the Main Stand remaining open. Phase one runs to August 2026, phase two September 2026 to September 2027, phase three October 2027 to January 2028, phase four February to August 2028 including terrace and roof removal, and phase five September 2028 to January 2029 for final fit-out plus Holmesdale cladding and glazing.

To ease cash flow, the scheme is phased for Community Infrastructure Levy payments totalling £4 million, split £940,000, £1.33 million and £1.82 million. Overall costs exceed £200 million, Wooderson Close purchases were £3.11 million, a Sainsbury’s land deal is agreed, and annual revenue is projected to rise by about £20 million.

Other works include accessible seating, a lengthened pitch and a corner stand linking Holmesdale and Arthur Wait, with capacity rising from 25,486 to 34,259.
