Brooklyn Beckham launched a scathing attack on his parents David and Victoria on Instagram

Salford City co-owner David Beckham is in the headlines this week for all the wrong reasons.

The former England international has been involved with the ownership of the League Two side since 2019, but in May last year he completed a deal alongside Gary Neville to remain as a co-owner, but under a new investment structure.

The likes of Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville are now no longer involved with the club, nor is Singapore businessman Peter Lim.

However, controversy struck the 50-year-old when his son Brooklyn Beckham launched a scathing attack on the family, in particular David and his wife Victoria.

Brooklyn Beckham posted on social media on Monday that he is cutting ties with his family due to the behaviour of his parents.

The 26-year-old accused the pair of being controlling, lying to the media and of living inauthentic lives.

“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” said Beckham, via his personal Instagram page

“Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.

“Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.

“But I believe the truth always comes out.”

Beckham continued by claiming that his parents have attempted to break up his relationship with his partner Nicola Peltz, who he married in 2022.

It remains to be seen whether the relationship between the son and his parents can be repaired, or what kind of impact it will have on David Beckham’s investments.

Meanwhile, Salford City are in the race to gain promotion to League One this season, in what is the club’s first full campaign since the change in ownership structure last year.

The Ammies have been in the fourth tier since 2019, and have reached the play-offs just once in that time, coming seventh in the 2022/23 campaign, where they suffered defeat to Stockport County in the semi-finals in a penalty shootout.
