Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted what he thinks will unfold at the CBS Arena.
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted Coventry City will edge to victory over West Brom and will keep up their momentum after the international break.
The Sky Blues return to second-tier action at the top of the Championship table, five points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough following their late 1-0 victory over Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium.
Frank Lampard’s men are currently on 34 points from their opening 15 league outings, looking to make it three consecutive victories as they host a West Midlands derby against the Baggies.
For the visitors, West Brom boss Ryan Mason earned some much-needed respite as his team came from behind to beat Oxford United at The Hawthorns. A Greg Leigh own goal and an Aune Heggebo header canceled out Will Lankshear’s opener for the U’s.
Despite claiming maximum points in B71, the Baggies have only won three games out of their last 11, so further victories will have to come quickly if Mason is to win over a rather disgruntled fanbase.
Albion’s cause won’t be helped given it is likely to be a rather sparse away end, with fierce criticism fired towards Coventry for pricing their matchday tickets upwards of £45.
For West Brom, it’s an opportunity to push themselves back into contention for the play-offs, while Coventry will be hopeful of using home advantage to increase their lead at the summit even further.
With this in mind, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has outlined his prediction for the clash at the CBS Arena at Saturday lunchtime.

Speaking with Simeon Gholam on the Sky Sports Essential EFL podcast, pundit David Prutton backed Coventry City to seal a narrow 2-1 victory over West Brom on their return to Championship action, believing the West Midlands derby is “teed up nicely” for an enthralling encounter.
Gholam said: “Coventry are our leaders in every single way. West Brom down in 14th. They beat Oxford 2-1 last time out, but they are still four points off the play-offs, and they have slipped away a little bit.”
Prutton replied: “And the ones that aren’t slipping are Coventry. The questions that were asked to your mate, Frank’s side after the Wrexham game, were very quickly answered, weren’t they?
“And a West Brom side, I’ve enjoyed watching Ryan’s team. There’s been a couple of times where he’s done post-match, when he’s been quite fired up, very honest about what he’s seen and honest about what he wants from the side, the club and what his expectations are, so this one is nicely teed up.
“Again, the question going into the last few international breaks is whether they can maintain momentum, Coventry City, and that gets thrown straight back at them at Saturday lunchtime.
When asked about a score prediction, Prutton added: “I’m going to go for Coventry to keep going. Coventry 2-1 West Brom.”

As far as West Brom are concerned, it’s a daunting trip to the CBS Arena when returning from an international break, taking on a Coventry City side who have been head and shoulders above the rest in the division.
It’s a particularly tricky task for Ryan Mason’s team to claim maximum points in this game too, with the Sky Blues winning five and drawing two of their seven home league matches so far this campaign.
The goals have been firmly flowing at the top end of the pitch for Coventry, while it’s an issue that has plagued West Brom since Mason took over the hotseat at The Hawthorns, so it’s difficult to look past a home victory given the stark contrast in both sides.
Of course, the Championship is so unpredictable and that’s why the division is adored so much, and if Coventry are to get caught out, coming off the back of a two-week break could be the time it happens.
