Ellis Simms scored twice in Coventry City's 4-2 win over Middlesbrough
Ellis Simms has issued a message of appreciation to Coventry City supporters after the team’s important 4-2 win away to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
The forward scored twice at the Riverside in a crucial win over their closest promotion rivals.
His strike in the 10th minute opened the scoring for Frank Lampard’s side, before Liam Kitching gave the team a 2-0 lead just a few moments later.
Morgan Whittaker and a Bobby Thomas own goal brought the hosts back into the contest, but Kitching and Simms again struck in quick succession in the final stages to seal a momentous victory for the Sky Blues.
The 24-year-old has now contributed five goals and two assists for Coventry so far this season, as they extended their lead at the top of the Championship table with this midweek win.

Simms has thanked the fans for their incredible support away from home on Tuesday night, as he celebrates his role in the side’s victory.
He’s urged his teammates to keep pushing, as this result took their current winning streak to four in a row, giving them a 10 point lead over both Stoke City and Middlesbrough in second and third.
“Great win on the road,” wrote Simms, via his personal X account.
“Proud of the lads’ determination and glad to help with two goals.
“The fans were incredible as always. Let’s keep pushing!”
Simms has played a secondary role in Lampard’s side so far this season, with the forward only making his third start in the league on Tuesday evening.
However, he’s shown his importance to the club in their bid for promotion to the Premier League with two crucial goals against a top two rival.
Coventry have taken a commanding position at the top of the table, having earned 40 points from their opening 17 fixtures, 10 clear of second and third.
Next up for Lampard’s side is a home clash against Charlton Athletic on 29 November in a 3pm kick-off.

Simms has been out of favour so far this season, but his performance at the Riverside showed that he still has a role in this squad.
The Sky Blues have a 10 point lead at the top with this win over a direct rival, and that is an incredibly strong position to be in by the end of November.
The fact Coventry aren’t reliant on one player to score goals is very important to their good form, and Simms has stepped up when called upon with Haji Wright out of the team.
If he can contribute big goals in games of this magnitude, then Lampard’s side should feel secure in their current position in the league.
