Frank Lampard has revealed Coventry City's stance on signing Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka amid rival interest from Birmingham City.
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard has revealed his side's stance on signing Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka, amid rival interest from Birmingham City.
The January transfer window provides the Sky Blues with a key opportunity to add to their ranks and bolster their chances of beating Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough to the Championship title.
Lampard has already utilised the market to acquire wingers Yang Min-Hyeok and Romain Esse on loan from Tottenham and Crystal Palace, respectively, while a midfielder could be the next through the doors at the CBS Arena.
Coventry were beaten 1-0 by Stoke City in the FA Cup third round, meaning that the Sky Blues can fully focus on their Championship promotion bid.

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka has made just six Premier League appearances for the Bees this term, while he helped Nigeria reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, where they were beaten on penalties by hosts Morocco.
Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mail, both Lampard's men and Championship rivals Birmingham are keen on making loan swoops for the 28-year-old.
Onyeka has fallen out of favour with Brentford and spent last season on loan with Bundesliga outfit Augsburg, where he made 34 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, speaking to Coventry Live about his side's interest in the midfielder, Lampard revealed: "I don’t want to give you the generic answer because I feel like I keep giving it to you.
"But when I look at the team, if we can strengthen anywhere, and this is the generic answer, then I think it is something we should look at. But I am happy with my midfield."

As alluded to by Lampard, Coventry already have a strong midfield, which has seen them boast Championship title credentials ahead of the business end of the season.
The Sky Blues have been able to rely on the efforts of Victor Torp, who has a clinical eye for both goals and assists, while Jack Rudoni is also an attacking threat.
Furthermore, Matt Grimes is one of the most reliable midfielders in the Championship and acts as a metronome for Lampard's men.
However, there is no doubt that Onyeka, who has gained an abundance of top-flight experience in England, Germany, and Denmark, would strengthen Coventry's ranks.
According to FotMob, the Brentford man completed 834 successful passes in the Bundesliga while on loan with Augsburg last term, while he also won 166 duels.
That sort of accuracy and tenacity could help Grimes dictate Championship fixtures even more.
Coventry face vital fixtures this month, including clashes against fellow promotion chasers Millwall, relegation battlers Norwich City, and play-off hopefuls Queens Park Rangers.
Onyeka could help the Sky Blues navigate those challenges, while Lampard's men already know the importance of next month's clash with automatic promotion rivals Middlesbrough.
The CBS Arena outfit will be determined to get the better of Boro, having already suffered two defeats against fellow top-two chasers Ipswich this term.
