Fridolina Rolfo bagged a goal and an assist to see Manchester United into the quarter-finals of the Subway Women’s League Cup with a 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Sweden international has enjoyed a successful run in the side over the last three matches – proving instrumental in last weekend’s victory over the same opponents in the Women’s Super League, and featuring in the 1-0 UEFA Women’s Champions League win over Juventus.
And head coach Marc Skinner revealed after the match that Rolfo had had words with him some days ago about her form.
“Frido said to me probably a week or two ago that it’s hard – because we have to rotate – to get the rhythm,” he told the club’s official website. “That’s something our players are learning, get the rhythm, because when it comes thick and fast you have to prioritise freshness and try and get the thread of the team right.
“Frido has had a run in the team the last three games and you’ve seen that she can make a massive impact. When she’s central, Frido is a real threat, and she’s brought a lot of what we expected – quality, experience and a lot of energy to our team as well.
“Congratulations to her on the first part of the year but I expect more in the second part of the year!” he concluded with a grin.
Skinner also gave an insight into what he had told his team at half-time when they were 1-0 down.
“I said to them at half-time, I need more aggression, I need more focus, and finish your purposeful chances, be aggressive in every action, and if you do that, you’ll dominate the game,” he said.
Manchester United will now face Arsenal in the semi-finals of the competition, which take place next month.
Manchester City play Chelsea in the other fixture.
