The defender has made the jump to Carrow Road as a free agent, running down his contract in South Wales to make the move to Norfolk on an initial three-year deal.

The 25-year-old has been a key figure for the Swans since joining the club in the 2022 summer window from MK Dons.

His departure will be a real blow for Alan Sheehan’s side this season, particularly given he has left for nothing, although they have bolstered their defensive options with the addition of Ipswich Town's Cameron Burgess.

Darling made 39 appearances for Swansea last season, with the team finishing 11th in the Championship table.

Darling has thanked the club and its supporters for the backing he’s received over the last three years.

He has also made it clear just how special a place Swansea is to him, and that he’ll have very warm memories of his time in the team.

“Jack Army, it’s with a heavy heart that my time at Swansea City comes to an end after three years at this brilliant football club,” wrote Darling, via his X account.

“I have made friends for life on and off the pitch during my time at the club and have memories to savour.

“For us as a family, Swansea will always be a very special place as it is the birthplace of our baby daughter Gigi.

“As I move on to the chapter of my career I will always reflect warmly on my time as a Jack, and I thank you for your support in good times and bad over these last few years.

“I would also like to thank everyone associated with Swansea City; my team-mates and all the staff and coaches I worked with for helping make this such an enjoyable time in my career.

“I wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the future.

“Once a Jack, always a Jack.”

Darling joined Swansea in the 2022 summer transfer window, making the switch to join Russell Martin’s side.

While the Swans had just narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League the prior summer, they had just finished 15th under Martin in his first year in charge.

However, the arrival of Darling helped improve results, with the defender featuring 31 times in the 2022/23 campaign as they finished 10th in the Championship.

Swansea missed out on a play-off place by just three points, before Martin left the club for Southampton.

Darling grew in importance under Martin’s replacement Michael Duff, and then Luke Williams, appearing 38 times in the following season, contributing three goals and two assists.

The final year of Darling’s contract saw him play 39 times in the Championship, but the team were only able to manage an 11th place finish under Alan Sheehan.

The centre-back will now ply his trade under Liam Manning, who has recently been appointed manager at Norwich after their underwhelming 14th place finish in the table.

Darling has signed a three-year deal at Carrow Road with the option for a fourth, and it represents a move somewhat closer to his Cambridge roots.
