This Newcastle United team does not look the same.

Sunday’s match will be very quickly forgotten but there’s clearly something up (It was games exactly like this that cost us Europe last season).

Lacklustre, huffing and puffing, slow and predictable… or is it?

No full pitch press today, or sometimes just the bare minimum of one.

Has Eddie changed tactics?

Has someone worked out that the way we played last season (and the season before) might be contributing to our injuries and we’re trying something different?

Only Eddie knows that one but I have never seen Eddie more animated than I saw today, he was not happy. Bet the bus ride back will be interesting…

Let’s box off the bad…

Joelinton never recovered from giving the ball away for the Bournemouth goal and was awful all day.

Murphy was terrible.

Longstaff looks way too slow, both in pace and thought.

Krafth did not look like a centre back today and what on earth is wrong with Gordon??? Ok, he scored, but that was about it – his mind is not on it. Kelly and Tino were “ok” against tricky opponents but certainly no more than that.

Now the good (yes there is some!);

We looked far better when Tripps and Barnes came on (both surely starters next time).

Hall, having had a stinker last week, gave some much needed urgency; Bruno and Isak did the best they could given what was happening around them; it was good to see Willock get some minutes and BDB produced another steady display.

After we scored with 15 mins left I thought we would have kept the pressure on for the win – and we just didn’t – it looked like we had no more gears to go up to.

We got the bad end of an awful refereeing decision last week and a very, very lucky one this week.

Simple fact is – we were not good enough – but I’m sure Eddie took it all in.

At least it was a point away from home – we got nowt here last season.

Bit nervous about playing Forest away in this form and there’s no way we’ll score six goals against Spurs again – we’ll be lucky to get a point at this rate!

Still need a central defender and right winger – five days left.
