Huddersfield Town and Port Vale supporters both aimed a brutal chant towards Darren Moore during his side's Boxing Day hammering at the Accu Stadium.

It was another tough afternoon for Port Vale manager Darren Moore as his side were beaten 5-0 by his former club Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium on Boxing Day.

After winning promotion from League Two last season, Port Vale made a poor start to the campaign as they picked up just two points from their first seven games, but it looked as though they were beginning to find their feet in League One after a run of three consecutive victories in September.

However, the Valiants have not picked up another maximum since the last of those wins exactly three months ago, and their nightmare run of form continued as they were hammered by Huddersfield on Boxing Day.

Goals from Leo Castledine, Ryan Ledson and Bojan Radulovic gave the Terriers a three-goal lead inside the first 32 minutes, and it did not get much better for Vale after the break, with Alfie May adding a fourth and Castledine netting his second to complete the rout.

The Valiants remain bottom of the table after their latest defeat, but they are now 10 points from safety, and as the pressure increases on manager Darren Moore, it is fair to say there was little sympathy for him in West Yorkshire.

Port Vale are now without a win in their last 11 league games, with seven of those matches ending in defeat, and as their predicament at the bottom of the table continues to worsen, supporters were not afraid to let Moore know how they were feeling during the loss at Huddersfield.

The game marked Moore's first return to his former club since being sacked by the Terriers in January 2024 after an underwhelming four-month reign, during which he won just three of his 23 games in charge, drawing 11 and losing nine.

While Town were eventually relegated to League One under his replacement Andre Breinreiter, it seems that supporters have not forgotten Moore's role in their demise, and during their side's emphatic Boxing Day victory, they joined in with the Vale faithful as all sides of the ground chanted against the 51-year-old's style of football.

However, while Moore admitted that his side's performance was "just not good enough" against Huddersfield, he insisted that he would not resign from his position at Vale Park, despite some Valiants supporters turning against him.

It may only have been eight months since Moore was celebrating leading Port Vale to automatic promotion from League Two, but as his side's winless streak continues, his position at Vale Park looks to be under increasing threat.

Given that the Valiants have failed to score in nine of their 11 games during their current run without a victory, it is easy to see why supporters are not particularly pleased with Moore's style of play, and, indeed, they have scored just 13 goals in 21 games this season, which is the lowest total in League One by quite some distance.

It does not get much easier for Moore with a trip to third-placed Bradford City to come on Monday night before back-to-back home games against a resurgent Blackpool and play-off chasing Barnsley before the end of the festive period.

Vale owner Carol Shanahan has remained loyal to Moore for now, but her patience will surely be tested if he fails to pick up positive results over the next three games, particularly with supporters beginning to voice their opinions.

While he only took over at the club with a few months of the season remaining, Moore has already suffered one relegation from League One with the Valiants in the 2023-24 campaign, and on the current evidence, it looks unlikely that he will be able to keep them in the third tier this time around.
