Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics has sent a message of support to Angry Ginge after winning I’m A Celeb
Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics has sent a message of support to internet personality Angry Ginge after he won the reality TV show, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
Over the years, footballers have bridged the gap with the celebrity world and struck up a number of notorious friendships.
David Beckham and Tom Cruise were a particularly A-list pair of friends, with Watford icon Troy Deeney and Anthony Joshua another notable brotherhood.
In modern times, the emergence of social media and streaming platforms such as YouTube have given rise to a new type of celebrity. These internet personalities amass millions of views online and therefore work their way into the public's knowledge.
Footballers have begun to strike up friendships with some of these streamers, with Sammie Szmodics and Angry Ginge one example of this happening.

Ipswich forward Szmodics and Angry Ginge became acquainted through the world of video games, when they would face off on FIFA, gathering their friends to make up teams before entering a clash.
The two would regularly chat over Angry Ginge’s streams afterwards, poking fun at each other for several reasons. Szmodics would regularly make reference to the streamer’s favourite team, Manchester United, and their poor performances.
Recently, Angry Ginge swapped his streaming setup for the jungle, taking part in the reality TV show, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
In the programme, 12 celebrities are placed in a jungle, where they have to live in a camp setting and take part in a number of trials. These include eating insects and being locked in a box full of rodents.
Viewers at home vote for who they want to keep in the show, with the winner eventually decided by whoever gains the most popularity at home. Angry Ginge won out in 2025, with his bubbly personality clearly appealing to those watching.
Following this, Szmodics posted an Instagram story of him video calling the streamer, captioning the post: “Catch up with the King of the jungle. Congrats brother.”
In the picture, both the Ipswich Town man and Angry Ginge are smiling with their thumbs up, clearly still delighted after winning the reality TV show.

Given how popular the world of streaming has become, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see similar friendships to this emerge in the future.
Kids everywhere are consuming these forms of media, which is something that football clubs will be keen to tap into.
Furthermore, these children will grow into the next generation of footballers, which means that they will likely use their platform to connect with internet personalities.
