Beckham is at the front and centre of the Ammies' fresh investment
Salford City recently confirmed the news of fresh investment in the club, with former Manchester United and England legends Gary Neville and David Beckham at the front and centre of the consortium.
The 'Class of 92' icons at Old Trafford have had a long-standing affiliation with the League Two club as a result of their pre-established connections to the city, with the duo previously part-owners alongside Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt, whilst the vast majority of investment came from Singaporean businessman, Peter Lim.
And, just months after Neville acquired Lim's 50% stake in the club, a fresh cash injection of $15-20m (£11.3-15m) from a new consortium which involves Beckham, his former Old Trafford teammate, Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies among the nine-strong group has been bled into the Ammies' coffers with the aim of eventually reaching the Championship.
Beckham, of course, rose to stardom in the 1990s as a result of his flair and technical ability as a homegrown talent in the early days of the Premier League, in which the Red Devils were a dominant force under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, before immersing himself in the showbiz and financial world later down the line.
With recent developments at the Peninsula Stadium in mind, FLW has decided to take a look at the 50-year-old's reported net worth at this moment in time.
The six-time Premier League, two-time FA Cup and one-time UEFA Champions League winner is one of the game's biggest icons.
After featuring 394 times and scoring 85 times for United after breaking through the well-documented pathway, Beckham would go on to feature for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and AC Milan before hanging up his boots in May 2013 after a short stint with PSG.
Unsurprisingly, playing for clubs of such stature, the London-born playmaker is one of the wealthiest athletes of all-time, alongside the likes of Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is estimated that the man who also represented England on 115 occasions between 1996 and 2009 earned an estimated sum of £338m over the course of his career, and according to The Sunday Times' Rich List 2024, has a combined net worth of £455m alongside his wife and former Spice Girls singer, Victoria.
Since the turn of the millennium, Beckham has also been the face of many major brands and global events, penning a lifetime contract worth a reported £115m with Adidas in 2003, a £50m stake in whiskey brand, the Haig Club, £20m for a deal with Armani, as well as deals of £2m and £3m per-year with previous sponsors Pepsi and Gillette.
The London-born star was also reportedly paid £150m per annum to be an ambassador for Qatar, which started in 2022 as the Middle-Eastern country hosted the FIFA World Cup won by Argentina.
As well as overseeing the takeover in Greater Manchester, 'Becks' as he has become known as, also owns a stake in MLS side, Inter Miami, alongside Jose and Jorge Mas.
The former LA Galaxy man was offered the chance to buy an expansion team for $25m after his move Stateside, which saw the Florida-based side founded in 2018.
Currently, Inter are fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference, boasting many former FC Barcelona stars on their books, such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba and are managed by Javier Mascherano.
As well as overseeing matters in America, Beckham was also spotted as a guest, alongside Neville, for Birmingham City's 3-1 victory over Wrexham at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park last September, watching on alongside Blues minority stakeholder Tom Brady, Red Dragons' ownership duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as well as plenty of other high-profile guests.
This showcased that the global sensation still has a passion for the English pyramid, and Salford supporters will hope that the new consortium can see them rise up the EFL, having failed to achieve promotion out of the fourth-tier since their first game at this level six years ago.
