Pep Guardiola and Manchester City remain on the hunt for a new right-back this summer, despite frustrations in the pursuit to date.

It comes after a flurry of transfer business was completed by Hugo Viana at the Etihad Stadium in time for the start of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, welcoming four new faces into the roster to be integrated into the squad over in the United States.

Marcus Bettinelli arrived as a new third-choice goalkeeper to replace Scott Carson following the expiry of his contract, while Rayan Ait-Nouri would bolster the defensive options over in the left-back role.

Further forward and Tijjani Reijnders was identified as the perfect solution to the number eight position, with Rayan Cherki arriving from Lyon largely to fill the creative void left behind by Kevin De Bruyne following his switch to Napoli after the expiry of his contract.

And while many supporters will no doubt be left pleased with the business that has been promptly completed by the club, it appears as though there are plans to continue their investment in the remainder of the summer.

As highlighted by ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Manchester City have not ruled out signing a right-back this summer, despite failing to bring in such a name into Pep Guardiola’s squad in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Additional reporting from The Athletic continues to tie both Flamengo’s Wesley and Newcastle’s Tino Livramento with interest from the Etihad Stadium, although does seem to suggest that outgoings will be the immediate next priority ahead of the European season.

On the subject of potential exits, there remains some uncertainty over the futures of Manchester City’s goalkeepers, with Ederson in particular understood to be open to the idea of a switch to Saudi Arabia – should interest emerge from the Middle-East.

Further forward and there is an expectation that Vitor Reis could be subject to a loan move, while John Stones could depart despite his public comment on wanting to stay put at Manchester City into next season.

Ilkay Gundogan has been heavily linked with interest from Galatasaray, while the future of Mateo Kovacic remains uncertain, and all of Kalvin Phillips, Kyle Walker, and Jack Grealish are expected to find routes out of the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window concludes.
