Leicester City are preparing for just a second-ever season at League One level since the club's formation in 1884, with their recent fall from grace certainly well-documented.
Just 10 years ago, the Foxes had achieved one of, if not, the most remarkable of sporting triumphs by lifting the Premier League at odds of 5000-1, but are now set for a critical campaign in their latest rebuilding attempt.
The East Midlands outfit's plight has come with a backdrop of serious financial uncertainty as well as an underperformance on the pitch, with their relegation from the Championship further compounded by a six-point deduction sanctioned by the EFL in February, just days before Gary Rowett replaced Marti Cifuentes as manager at the King Power Stadium on a short-term contract.
Ultimately, the vastly-experienced boss was only able to achieve two wins in 14 matches, meaning Leicester were relegated alongside Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Since the conclusion of the season, attention has turned to who could possibly lead the Foxes into 46 League One battles from the sidelines, with the likes of Dick Schreuder of Dutch Eredivisie outfit, NEC Nijmegen, and former Peterborough United boss, Darren Ferguson, just two of the names previously linked.
However, in a fresh update, it has emerged that the hierarchy at the King Power haven't lost sight of a previous long-time target, despite the fact some may question if the club have the ability to pull off such a managerial move in their current circumstances.

That's because, according to Alan Nixon - via Patreon - the Foxes are putting together a lucrative package that they will hope attracts former Rangers boss, Russell Martin, to the club ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The 40-year-old has previously been a target for the club, including back in February before they moved to appoint Rowett following Andy King's brief period as interim boss.
Nixon's report continues by stating that chiefs at the Midlands outfit hope that the former Scotland international defender can be swayed to take the job on through the offering of a long-term deal and a 'handsome' contract, even though, in recent days, he has been linked with roles in Spain and Italy, albeit the identity of those clubs have not yet been revealed.
The journalist also previously reported that City's former Championship rivals, Blackburn Rovers and Watford, are also two clubs plotting potential, moves for Martin's signature as they look to replace Michael O'Neill and Ed Still respectively.
Nixon's latest update also claims that the Scot would have greater job security with the Foxes in an attempt to rebuild his managerial reputation after disastrous ends to his spells at both Southampton and the Light Blues.

Leicester have already confirmed that 10 senior players, including Asmir Begovic, Ricardo Pereira, Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew, will depart the club upon the expiration of their contracts, whilst the likes of Abdul Fatawu are also expected to leave in the summer amid transfer interest.
Meanwhile, it was recently claimed that the club would have a minimum initial budget of £10m to conduct a rebuild at the first time of asking, which could also go a long way to attracting a manager of Martin's calibre to League One level.
Furthermore, it would represent a chance for the ex-full-back to prove why the club have courted his signature for such a long time despite the scepticism which currently surrounds his name, largely due to the fact he was only able to win one of seven Scottish Premiership games at Ibrox between August and October 2025.
It has also been five years since he last managed in the third tier with MK Dons, who would also be one of 23 divisional rivals next season following their promotion from League Two under Paul Warne.
