What Mikel Arteta thinks about selling Zubimendi in January

Martin Zubimendi has had a difficult time getting into the Arsenal team this season despite playing a huge role in their success during the last campaign, and reports claim he wants to leave by January.

Despite winning the World Cup with Spain in the summer, Zubimendi has failed to break back into the Arsenal team, with Myles Lewis-Skelly chosen to start matches ahead of him. His situation has changed significantly compared with last season.

Zubimendi Struggling for Regular Game Time

Even when several players were rested during the Carabao Cup game against Ipswich Town, Zubimendi was played out of position as a right back. That decision highlighted just how difficult it has become for him to secure a regular midfield role.

It has been a surprising change of fortune for the midfielder, who earned plenty of praise for his performances for Arsenal last season. His displays also attracted interest from clubs looking to sign him during the summer, but he ultimately remained with the Gunners.

Chelsea and Real Madrid remain keen on the midfielder, with the Spanish side reportedly ready to add him to their squad by the January transfer window. A potential sale could also earn Arsenal money, should the club decide to allow him to leave.

However, Arsenal are not ready for his departure just yet. According to Football Insider, Mikel Arteta will not allow Zubimendi to leave in mid-season because the midfielder remains a key part of the squad and provides important depth.

Arsenal Still Value the Midfielder

Zubimendi has had a good time on Arsenal’s books, but his current lack of regular starts has created an unexpected situation for the player. With competition for places remaining strong, he now faces a battle to convince Arteta that he deserves more opportunities.

The midfielder will need to respond to the challenge and prove that he can win his place back ahead of the other midfielders in the squad. His experience and previous performances for Arsenal give him something to build on as he looks for a way back into the starting team.

For now, the Gunners appear unwilling to consider his departure during the season. Zubimendi will therefore have to continue working for his opportunities while Arsenal maintain their stance over his future.
