The Owls are currently without a permanent head coach following Danny Rohl’s departure on Tuesday afternoon.

The new Championship campaign will begin in just over a week, with the Yorkshire outfit set to face Leicester City in their opening fixture.

However, financial issues have led to a disastrous summer, which has now culminated in the German leaving his position as manager at Hillsborough.

Speaking on Talksport, via their YouTube channel, Warnock has responded to a question over his openness to taking over at Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Sheffield United boss replied “yes,” when asked by Dean Saunders if he’d take the role.

The 76-year-old has been out of management since departing his interim role at Aberdeen in March 2024.

His last manager’s position in English football came with Huddersfield Town, where he oversaw 23 games from February 2023 to September 2023.

Warnock has enjoyed a lengthy and successful career, taking over at the likes of QPR, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Middlesbrough over the years, among others, as well as Sheffield Wednesday’s bitter rivals Sheffield United.

It's expected that Henrik Pedersen will be placed in charge of the Owls’ first team squad for the time being, with that opening clash against Leicester coming on 10 August.

Sheffield Wednesday’s difficult summer

Sheffield Wednesday have seen a number of important players depart the club for nothing this summer.

The likes of Michael Smith, Josh Windass and Akin Famewo have all left Hillsborough after the team came 12th in the table last season.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri is currently under pressure from supporters to sell, with the Thai businessman struggling with the running of the club financially.

No players have been signed in the transfer market, with restrictions currently placed on the club by the EFL on who they can bring to the club.

Henrik Pedersen offers Sheffield Wednesday some much-needed continuity

Pedersen was a coach under Rohl during his time in charge at Sheffield Wednesday, so keeping him on could prove the smartest move for the time being.

He offers the team some continuity from last season into the next, which makes sense given no new players have arrived and everyone will know him.

It is going to be a tricky campaign ahead for the Owls given who has departed the club in recent months.

But bringing in Warnock would not be a sensible move at this stage, especially as supporters are unlikely to want to see the 76-year-old take over.
