Trevoh Chalobah continues to be one of the more underrated players in the Premier League, but bit by bit he’s proving to everyone just how good he is.

His partnership with Wesley Fofana is great, and they’re both benefitting from it. We’ve conceded just once all season in league games they’ve started together.

On the London is Blue podcast this week, they noted a chance in Chalobah’s attitude on the pitch too that reflects his development.

Defender takes on more emotional role as leadership skills develop

“Trev makes a huge block at the end of the game, and you can see the way that his teammates to go over and big him up. The way I think he’s taking on a bit of that emotional leader role is really important. To a defender, making that critical block is to an attacker what scoring a goal is,” presenter Nick Verlaney said.

We’ve noticed exactly the same thing about Chalobah taking on more of a leadership role. He’s doing more interviews and is more emotive on the pitch than he ever was before. His celebrations after scoring also show a guy who’s now more comfortable to be the centre of attention for a moment.

Previously pretty quiet, now he’s earned his starting spot over so many years he seems more confident that he belongs.
