Ex-Brazilian striker Robinho played 144 games with Milan and scored 32 goals, but what he did on the pitch will be vastly overshadowed by a rape conviction for which he’s been arrested in Brazil.

The 40-year-old has been arrested to serve out a nine-year prison sentence for a rape committed in 2013.

The ex-Brazil international was found guilty by a Milan court in 2017 but given that Brazil does not have an extradition agreement with Italy, the ex-striker refused to return to Europe.

A Brazilian supreme ruled earlier this week that Robinho would have to go behind the bars, so the former Rossoneri star was arrested on Friday.

What did Robinho do at Milan?

Robinho joined the Rossoneri from Manchester City on August 31, 2010, thanks to the mediation of the late Italian football agent Mino Raiola. The Rossoneri paid €18m to secure his signature, and Robinho signed a four-year contract worth €4m per season.

He reunited with his compatriots Pato, Ronaldinho and Thiago Silva at San Siro making his debut in a 2-0 loss against Cesena on September 11, 2010. His first Serie A goal was against Chievo Verona at San Siro on October 16, 2010.

Robinho became Serie A champion with the Rossoneri that season, securing the title with two games to spare after a 0-0 draw against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. He was the player with the most appearances (45) under coach Massimiliano Allegri that season.

He also won the Supercoppa Italiana in the following campaign but missed the opening matches of 2011-12 with a bone oedema. He ended his second season at San Siro with six goals in 34 matches.

He spent two more seasons at Milan but didn’t win any other trophy and returned to Santos on loan in the summer of 2014 despite extending his contract with the Rossoneri only a year earlier.
