Wrexham made former Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie their first signing of the summer
Wrexham have come out on top in the race for Ryan Hardie’s signature this summer.
The Scottish striker has left Plymouth Argyle to pen a three-year contract with the Welsh side.
The 28-year-old made almost 250 appearances for the Pilgrims after joining the club in 2020, scoring 74 goals in that time period.
According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Wrexham paid just £700,000 for Hardie, due to a relegation clause in the striker’s contract.
The Red Dragons have kicked off their window with a real statement of intent, snapping up a forward who has bagged double figures in the past two Championship seasons.
Following the announcement of his transfer, Hardie spoke of his delight surrounding the move via the club website.
“I’m delighted to get the move done, I’m really happy to get it done so early and I cannot wait to get going,” stated Hardie.
“To get a full pre-season will be a massive benefit, to get integrated into the squad and learn the way the manager plays and get to know everyone will be important.
“The last couple of seasons, it’s been good getting experience in the EFL Championship and it’s experience I can lean on now. I’ve enjoyed playing there, and I’ve managed to score a few goals, so hopefully that can continue this season.
“I love how family-oriented the Club is, the community is all together and it really is a one-club City. Everything is to do with the football, and I’m really excited to be a part of that – I’ll give everything I’ve got for the badge.”
Wrexham are a side brimming with optimism and potential, determined to impress once again in the Championship next term.
Three consecutive promotions will fill the club with confidence that they can really attack the second-tier, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see their upwards trajectory stall somewhat.
The Championship is an extremely competitive division to compete in, with some outfits enjoying the financial boost of recent Premier League football.
However, signing players like Hardie is a surefire way of guaranteeing performance in the division.
The past two seasons have seen the former Plymouth striker excel in a team that has constantly fought against relegation. Therefore, it’s not unrealistic to expect the Scottish forward to perform even better in a more competitive side.
If the Red Dragons can recruit players of a similar ilk to Hardie, excitement will naturally build around the side’s chances next term and for good reason too.
Goals are the hardest thing to guarantee in football, and Phil Parkinson now has a proven source of them.
