What should Spurs look to do in the January transfer window?

Plenty has changed at Tottenham this season – a new manager, new signings and the departure of long-serving chairman Daniel Levy.
But what has not changed is the results on the pitch.
Spurs finished 17th last season under Ange Postecoglou and although they are in a better position as it stands in 11th under Thomas Frank, they are still a way off where they want to be.
Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani were brought in this summer, but what extra business do Spurs need to do in January to ensure they have a better second half of the campaign?
Tottenham have a problem on the left-hand side. Despite having a natural winger in Wilson Odobert in the squad, Frank reguarly opts for Kolo Muani or Richarlison to play wide on the left.
Both players are best in the number nine position and therefore Spurs’ attacks have tended to be very lop-sided towards the right.
Having a natural left winger out wide that Frank trusts would allow his side to become more unpredictable going forward, and would bolster a forward line that is lacking. Heung-Min Son might not have been the player he once was, but they certainly miss his goals.
Perhaps the best option that Tottenham could go for in that position is Savinho from Manchester City. They initially made an offer for him in the summer that was rejected by City. However, Antoine Semenyo moving to City could open the door for Savinho to switch to Tottenham.
Palhinha and Xavi were brought in this summer to add creativity and experience to Spurs’ midfield but both have failed to push Tottenham up a level.
The Portuguese international has not started any of the last five matches in the Premier League, while Xavi has only managed one goal in the league so far this season and has struggled to adapt to his new club.
Injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski has left them very short on creativity in the middle of the park. If they want to work their way up the table then they need to address this issue.
With Ben Davies missing for most of this season through a hamstring injury and Destiny Udogie suffering both a knee and a hamstring injury this season, Spurs have lacked cover at left back.
Djed Spence has filled in but he is primarily a right-back, therefore cover at left-back would allow for more rotation with Spurs still in the FA Cup and Champions League too.
Yves Bissouma is the most obvious player that Spurs could look to offload this winter. The midfielder is currently in Morocco competing in the Africa Cup of Nations for Mali, but he is yet to play for his club under Thomas Frank.
Recently, Spurs have said that a case regarding the Mali international filming himself inhaling laughing gas is under review, and he was left out of the squad that lost to PSG in the Super Cup due to disciplinary reasons as well.
He was linked with a host of clubs in the summer, including Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, and does appear to have much of a future at the club.
Brennan Johnson has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, meanwhile. The Welshman was Spurs’ top scorer last season, but has only started six matches in the Premier League so far this campaign.
If Spurs do end up signing a winger, Johnson could be the player that makes way for the new incoming.
