Former Strasbourg captain and club icon Dimitri Liénard has strongly condemned the critical banners aimed at president Marc Keller and striker Emmanuel Emegha during Le Racing’s 1-0 win over Le Havre on Sunday.

Speaking on local programme Club 1906, the 36-year-old, who remains a fan favourite at the Meinau, did not hold back: “I don’t understand this. Those who don’t like it should go and support Haguenau, Colmar, or Schiltigheim. The family was attacked: the captain, the president. Emegha has always given everything. But this came from a minority – they were whistled by the rest of the stadium.““This must be dealt with internally. We look like donkeys, like clowns. As a former captain, I would tell my players not to go and greet them anymore. What they did is an absolute disgrace. Keller could have left with his millions, but he is there every weekend. The team is back in Europe and finished 7th last season.”

The remarks come after banners from a section of ultras targeted Keller and Emegha, who is expected to complete a transfer to Chelsea in the coming months.

Earlier on Sunday, the Racing Girls supporters’ group released a statement defending Keller: “The slogans displayed yesterday are unacceptable and in no way represent our vision of supporting Racing. Demanding the departure of our president is a direct attack against the club and what it represents.”

Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior also criticised the behaviour post-match, branding the attacks on Emegha “unjustified”.

On Monday, former Racing shareholders added their voices in defence of the president. Patrick Adler told Les DNA: “Debate around multi-club ownership is legitimate. But what I saw on Sunday was inadmissible, unjust, and ungrateful. Attacking a player and the president is not possible. The authors of these banners crossed the red line.” Pierre Schmidt was more direct, stating: “There is no point trying to convince them, they must be marginalised.”GFFN | George Boxall
