Vasco have a full week to address key issues before the Campeonato Carioca semi-final, with tactical work and player confidence in focus.

According to Globo.com, the immediate priority is to rebuild belief in several starters after a flat display against Volta Redonda, notably Coutinho, Nuno Moreira, Cuesta and Lucas Piton.

The no 10 was booed by many at São Januário and did not return to the bench for the second half or the penalty shootout. He played three matches in six days, appeared to feel the strain, and was withdrawn at half-time after a poor opening period.

His best displays in 2026 have followed full training weeks. He impressed against Botafogo and Chapecoense after being rested versus Madureira, so this pause may aid his recovery at Vasco.

Fernando Diniz’s staff also aim to sharpen Cuiabano’s fitness. Signed in this window, the full-back is the only reinforcement yet to be named in a squad, arriving behind the group and managing a thigh issue.

Piton’s form has dipped, costing him his automatic role at left-back. If Cuiabano is available for the semi-final, the former Botafogo player could start.

Dates are still to be confirmed, although one semi is due next weekend. Vasco await the outcome of Fluminense against Bangu to know their opponents.
