Dusan Vlahovic is expected to be sidelined for a significant period after coming off injured during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cagliari, but what does that mean for the Serbian’s future in Turin given that he is approaching the final months of his contract?

Vlahovic withdrew from Juventus’s 2-1 win over Cagliari after half an hour with a muscular injury in his left leg on Saturday. Luciano Spalletti confirmed after full-time that he expects the Serbian to be ‘out for some time’. Initial reports suggest that Vlahovic could miss around two months of action.

Vlahovic has since reported for and completed a check-up at JMedical, and specific news regarding the severity of his injury is expected to arrive in due course.

Vlahovic is also into the final year of his Juventus contract, which expires at the end of June, 2026. From February 1 onwards, he is free to negotiate and sign for any team he chooses.

What is for certain, is that as result of this injury, Vlahovic will not leave Juventus during the January transfer window, as per Ilbianconero. That means that he either signs an extension or leaves for free in the summer.

According to Monday’s report, if anything, the situation favours Juventus more than it does Vlahovic, given that the Serbian is not currently able to ‘put himself in the shop window’.

The Serbian has had interest from various clubs across Europe, including the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but if he is unable to play for several months, there is a chance that his name goes ‘out of fashion’ with some of Europe’s biggest sides.

The feeling is that this will only come to help Juventus if they attempt to restart negotiations over a new contract extension for the club’s current top goalscorer.
