After the 2-1 win at PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, FC Bayern finished the league phase of the Champions League in second place. That means Vincent Kompany’s side go directly through to the round of 16 and will meet one of the play-off winners there. The last-16 ties will be played across 10/11 March and 17/18 March. Bayern’s strong placing in the league phase earns them home advantage in the second leg of each knockout round up to and including the semi-finals.
Having finished second in the league phase, the Munich men will now play one of the teams in positions 15 to 18 in the final table. They are Atalanta, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Olympiacos. These four teams will first play in the play-offs (17/18 and 24/25 February) to determine two participants in the round of 16. Bayern will then find out their next opponents in the draw on 27 February.
