This week, Chivas will meet Cruz Azul again in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura, 19 years after their last meeting in the final stages. Because of this, it's worth remembering that the last time they met at this stage, Guadalajara eliminated La Máquina... and ultimately lifted the 11th title.
We have to go back to AP06, in a series where La Máquina was the favorite against El Rebaño, who made it to the quarterfinals through the playoffs after beating Veracruz. The first leg was played on Wednesday, November 22, at the Jalisco Stadium, where El Rebaño took an important 2-0 lead. Omar Bravo opened the scoring in the 47th minute, finishing off a low cross from 'Ramoncito' Morales from the left. A few minutes later, 'Bofo' Bautista scored with an impeccable scissor kick that ended up in the top corner of the Celeste goalkeeper's net, leaving Chivas with a comfortable margin going into the second leg.
The second leg was played on Saturday, November 25, with Guadalajara determined to seal the tie. Everything started to go the Guadalajara team's way, as they were awarded a penalty in the first half, which Morales converted in the 38th minute. However, La Máquina responded before halftime with a goal from Richard Núñez. The Guadalajara team came out for the second half confident in their abilities, and in the 47th minute, they showed it again with a left-footed shot from the 'Eternal Captain'. Despite Cruz Azul's response in the 60th minute, Chivas brought the series to a successful conclusion, earning a ticket that would later allow them to compete in and win the AP06 Grand Final.
It is inevitable to bring up this memory, as Chivas will once again seek to knock Cruz Azul out of the quarterfinals. With unity, sacrifice, and the unconditional support of the Chivas Nation, Gabriel Milito's team will go for their ticket to the AP25 semifinals.
