This week, Chivas will meet Cruz Azul again in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura, 19 years after their last meeting in the final stages. Because of this, it's worth remembering that the last time they met at this stage, Guadalajara eliminated La Máquina... and ultimately lifted the 11th title.

However, La Máquina responded before halftime with a goal from Richard Núñez. The Guadalajara team came out for the second half confident in their abilities, and in the 47th minute, they showed it again with a left-footed shot from the 'Eternal Captain'. Despite Cruz Azul's response in the 60th minute, Chivas brought the series to a successful conclusion, earning a ticket that would later allow them to compete in and win the AP06 Grand Final.
