Southampton’s run to the FA Cup quarter-final, sealed by a 1-0 win at Fulham, means an April reshuffle with at least one, and likely two, Championship fixtures to be rearranged.
Daily Echo notes that quarter-final ties fall over the weekend of Saturday, April 4, and can be staged between Friday and Monday. That clashes with Ipswich at St Mary’s on Friday, April 3, and a trip to Wrexham on Monday, April 6, so both could move as the FA Cup takes priority.
Available midweek slots are Tuesday/Wednesday April 7/8, 14/15 and 28/29. All matches must be completed before the final day on Saturday, May 2. With an international break up to the FA Cup weekend and Saints playing Bristol City on Tuesday, April 21, the earliest window is April 7/8.
One scenario has Wrexham moved one day to Tuesday, April 7, with Ipswich likely to follow on April 14/15 or April 28/29. Ipswich must also rearrange a match against Portsmouth, complicating matters.
Saints head coach Tonda Eckert said: "My latest was the Wrexham game is going to get pushed back, potentially, depending on when the next fixture is. And then Ipswich is going to get pushed one week even further."
If Saints win their quarter-final, the semi-finals would be at Wembley over the weekend of Saturday, April 25, which would push the Blackburn league game back and leave only April 28/29 before the final day. The EFL will confirm schedules in due course.
