Reports this morning indicate that Derby's signing of the American striker Patrick Agyemang will be delayed until after Sunday's Gold Cup final.
Derby County's £5.8 million signing of American striker Patrick Agyemang will now not be completed until after Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup final, according to reports.
The Rams have agreed terms with MLS club Charlotte FC over the transfer of US international striker Agyemang, but it is now suggesting that this will now not be signed and sealed until after USA and Mexico this weekend.
John Eustace faces a big rebuild after his team only narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Agyemang is considered central to these plans, but there will now be a short delay before his medical is completed and the paperwork is signed.
The Telegraph's John Percy has reported that Derby are now expecting to finalise the transfer for Agyemang - which is going to cost an initial £5.8 million - early next week despite the fee already being agreed.
Agyemang will not undergo a medical until after the USA have taken on Mexico in the early hours of Monday morning, with the 24-year-old so far starting every Gold Cup match under Mauricio Pochettino.
As first reported by GiveMeSport's Tom Bogert, the total package with add-ons included will be $10 million (£7.3 million), meaning there will be £1.5 million worth of bonuses that may or may not be fulfilled over the course of Agyemang's time at Pride Park.
Derby fans won't have to wait too long to see their new man holding up the shirt though, although you'd expect him to have a short break after the Gold Cup due to the fact he's been playing competitive football since early 2025 without much in the way of a break.
Agyemang has played a full role in the US team's progress to the final of this competition, scoring in two of their three group matches, a 5-0 win against Trinidad & Tobago and a 2-1 win against Haiti.
The Mexico clash might now be a tense one for Derby fans who are keen to see this transfer get over the line, where there will be hopes that no nasty injuries are picked up.
What they will want to see though is an exciting performance from the USA's leading striker, as he's going to have a big reputation to uphold when he does arrive in England.
The fee that Derby are set to pay is not a small one for their recent standards, but chairman David Clowes appears to be re-investing every single penny back from Eiran Cashin's sale to Brighton in January and then some - which is very exciting for the club.
