In an interview with L’Équipe, Corentin Tolisso (30) was asked about his impressive resurgence in form with Lyon this season, which has seen him become one of the highest-ranked players by the French publication this season.

Since he returned to his boyhood club, the 30-year-old struggled to rediscover his previously imperious form that saw him become a regular in the France squad and earned him a move to Bayern Munich. The Lyon midfielder has been hampered by several lengthy spells on the sidelines through injury, preventing him from finding any momentum.

With an improved bill of fitness this season, the OL vice-captain has been pivotal to the successes that the Rhône club has had in the UEFA Europa League and Ligue 1. However, it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows for the Frenchman. Tolisso commented on his struggles when he returned to OL, “When I returned to OL, I was a little bit lost. I’m coming back to OL, but okay, what’s the next step? Why do I want to be good? I struggled to find answers to these questions for a while.”

Ahead of this season, while Lyon were on a preseason training camp in Austria, the midfielder had an epiphany, “I remember I was in my room during the training camp in Austria. I asked myself a billion questions: What do you really want? I then said to myself, put everything in place to achieve your goals. That’s what I did.”
