“When I walked in…” – Rosenior on what doubters said about relationship with top players

Liam Rosenior had a lot of work to do after his appointment as Chelsea boss.

A relative unknown, with few seasons as a manager under his belt and no experience at a top club, there were a lot of very justified doubts about the move. All he can do to dispel them is get results, and so far he’s doing superbly on that front.

He’s got 7 wins from his first 9 games, and can make it 8 from 11 if he beats Leeds tonight. The fans and pundits are being won over, and it seems like the players are already convinced.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rosenior explained about how it had been getting his squad to believe in him:

“I think they’re getting to know me better and better, and know my staff. I think I’m getting to know them better and better,” Rosenior said when asked how he was developing relationships with the group.

“When I walked in here people asked if players like Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo would respect me. They’re great people, they’re normal people who love doing what they do, with a lack of ego, with a huge humility, who want to improve.”

We’ve seen no signs at all that they doubt him – and if the wins continue, the belief will only grow.

Rosenior also spoke at some length about the online mockery and the memes going round about him in the early days of his Chelsea spell. Win by win, they’re getting quieter. Let’s hope he gets another today.

Cole Palmer returned from his groin injury in the first edition of this game, but it wasn’t enough to save Chelsea form a defeat. Both the attacker and the Blues had a tough period following that defeat. Perhaps tonight can see a reversal of all that?
