When is BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025? SPOTY date, shortlist and winner odds

Rory McIlroy is favourite but faces strong competition from Lando Norris

The shortlist has been announced for the 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The six nominees are Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly from the Lionesses, England rugby star Ellie Kildunne, darts sensation Luke Littler, Masters champion Rory McIlroy and newly-crowned F1 world champion Lando Norris.

Keely Hodgkinson won the award last year after winning gold in the 800m at the Paris Olympics and successfully defending her European title.

McIlroy is the favourite to win this year after he ended his long wait for the career Grand Slam with victory at Augusta in April.

Kelly helped England win a second successive European Championship in the summer, while Norris won the F1 world title last weekend.

Other prizes awarded on the night include Young Sports Personality of the Year, Coach of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and the Helen Rollason Award.

The World Sport Star award will also be presented.
