Almeira left-back Marc Pubill is expected to arrive in Italy by the end of Saturday evening ahead of a permanent move to join Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.
The 21-year-old, who recently won a gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Olympic Games in France, has a medical scheduled with La Dea for Sunday morning.
The highly-rated full-back is expected to join Atalanta in a deal worth €16m plus bonuses, which could push the deal closer to the €20m mark. Almeira were negotiating with La Dea over a sell-on clause, reported to be around 15%.
Pubill is expected to join the team ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash against Real Madrid in Warsaw on Wednesday night.
Gasperini warned that Atalanta, with injuries factored in, are currently ‘much less competitive’ than they were when they beat Bayer Leverkusen to the Europa League trophy back in May.
The team are currently without Italy internationals Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini, who are both out with long-term cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.
The coach has also confirmed that star playmaker Teun Koopmeiners is no longer training with the team, as he has decided to join Juventus this summer.
Atalanta, have, however, responded by signing Mateo Retegui to fill the gap left by Scamacca, while Ben Godfrey and Nicolo Zaniolo have also been added to the squad. Charles De Ketelaere’s loan deal was also made permanent earlier this summer.
