Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has admitted that a decision on his future will be announced in due course as he enters the final months of his contract.

The Portugal international is not understood to be speaking with officials at the Etihad Stadium over a renewal, with Manchester City expected to witness their captain leave the club at the end of the season.

Silva has been one of Pep Guardiola’s most influential signings in England, playing an indispensable role in the success Manchester City have enjoyed since his arrival from AS Monaco for £43 million in 2017.

Guardiola once famously remarked that Silva would stay with him during the entirety of his managerial spell in Manchester, though the Catalan – who is still expected to honour his current contract through to 2027 – could see the former Benfica man call it a day in England this summer.

Silva had admitted publicly on a few occasions that he has made his mind up over his club future, which is likely to see him leave Manchester City after his contract expires.

The Portuguese does not have a dearth of suitors as he mulls over his options away from the Etihad Stadium, with the Major League Soccer (MLS) and Saudi Arabia emerging as possible destinations of late – in addition to Benfica.

City face Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday after progressing to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 in midweek courtesy of a 2-0 win over Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium.

In conversation with Fred Caldeira for TNT Sports, the Manchester City captain was quizzed about his future. “When the time comes, together with the club, with Manchester City, it (a decision on his future) will be announced and you will know, obviously,” the playmaker said, as quoted by Sport Witness.

All indications point to an emotional parting of ways between Manchester City and their long-serving midfielder at the end of the season, with the Blues set to see another club legend depart in the backdrop of 12 months that have witnessed major upheaval in the first-team ranks.

Upon his appointment as Manchester City’s sporting director in 2025, Hugo Viana revamped Guardiola’s ranks and signed off on the exits of several senior stars, such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, Ilkay Gundogan, Scott Carson, Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji.

City will need to recruit accordingly should Silva leave the club in the summer, having added Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki to their midfield last summer. The January transfer window has also welcomed Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi to the Etihad Stadium from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.

A formal announcement on Silva’s plans for next season is not expected in the near future, with the Portuguese focussed on leading City to silverware on several fronts in what is increasingly looking like his final term in England’s north-west.
