Experienced defender is the first signing of the De Zerbi era
New Tottenham signing Andy Robertson has said he cannot wait to play for the club.
Robertson will officially join Spurs on July 1 following the expiration of his contract at Liverpool, though the move was confirmed on Friday with the left-back in the United States preparing for the World Cup.
The Scotland international announced in April that he would depart Liverpool this summer following nine nine trophy-laden years at Anfield, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield.
At 32-years-of-age, Robertson fell behind Milos Kerkez in the pecking order last season but Spurs have quickly moved to snap up the experienced defender.
In a special recorded message for supporters, Robertson has revealed his excitement at making the switch to north London.
He said: “Hi Tottenham fans, it’s me Andy Robertson here. As you can see I’m not in Glasgow, I’m in America just now preparing for the World Cup.
“But I just wanted to send you a quick message to say I cannot wait to play for you guys.
“I cannot wait to meet you guys, I cannot wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you and I’m already looking forward to next season.
“All the best and I will see you soon.”
Discussing the signing, Tottenham sporting director, Johan Lange, said: "We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club.
"First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back - one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will improve our squad.
"In addition, his quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for - and won - major honours.
"Andy's professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the Club.
"We are excited for Andy's new chapter with us and look forward to having him here after the World Cup."
