Barcelona have received a timely boost as La Liga has officially accepted Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s medical report, clearing the way for the registration of new signing Joan Garcia.
With the La Liga opener against Mallorca just around the corner, this decision comes at the perfect moment for Hansi Flick’s squad.
La Liga’s Medical Commission has confirmed that Ter Stegen’s injury meets the long-term injury criteria set by league regulations.
This allows Barcelona to free up part of the goalkeeper’s salary to register Garcia, who arrived from Espanyol earlier this summer.
The amount freed will depend on how long the German is sidelined – 40% of his salary if he is out for four months, or 80% if his recovery lasts at least five months.
Barcelona stated on Wednesday that they plan to register Joan Garcia today, Thursday, 14 August, making him available for the opening fixture against RCD Mallorca this Saturday.

“The club will proceed tomorrow to immediately formalise the registration of player Joan Garcia,” read Barcelona’s statement.
The process began five days ago when Ter Stegen finally signed off on his medical report, allowing the club to submit it to La Liga.
The Medical Commission took slightly longer than their usual 24 to 48 hours to issue a verdict.
Yesterday, Dr. Tomas Fernandez Jaen visited Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva de Sant Joan Despi to examine Ter Stegen, accompanied by the club’s head of medical services, Xavier Corbella.
Once all information was verified, it was sent to La Liga and the remaining two members of the commission. Notably, Dr. Jordi Ardevol abstained from the decision due to his previous ties with Barcelona.
With the approval now secured, Barcelona can deregister Ter Stegen and officially add Joan Garcia to their squad list.
