Arsenal have been without their captain for weeks after a knee injury against Brentford, and the latest update offers the clearest indication yet of when Martin Odegaard might return.

Martin Odegaard has been sidelined for several weeks after suffering a knee injury against Brentford, his second knee problem of the season, and his absence was felt again as Arsenal laboured to a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

With Arsenal’s impact at the top of the pitch diminishing with every game he misses, when will the Arsenal captain be back?

The question facing supporters is when Odegaard will return to action, and the answer may still be some weeks away. Arsenal have provided little detail about the injury, but the clearest indication of his return timeline has come from the Norway national team.

Last week Stale Solbakken offered an update on the midfielder’s condition. “There is nothing serious about Martin,” the Norway manager told Viaplay. “The most important thing is that he recovers completely and is good for us in the summer.

“For those of us who care about the World Cup, it’s not a disaster that he’s getting some breaks now. He’s going to rebuild and be crucial for Arsenal in April-May and maybe late March.”

That reference to “maybe late March” provides the strongest indication yet of a possible return window for Odegaard, suggesting the captain could be available again before the end of the month if his recovery continues as expected.

The Evening Standard have suggested a more specific date, pencilling him in for a return on 11 April.

Arsenal face a busy schedule before then, starting with Everton at home on Saturday, followed by the Champions League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen, the League Cup final against Manchester City, and an FA Cup tie with Southampton ahead of the international break.

Domestic football then resumes with Arsenal hosting Bournemouth at the Emirates on 11 April, a fixture that currently stands as the most concrete target for Odegaard’s comeback as he works his way back from his knee injury.
