Southampton's squad is filled to the brim with valuable talent
Southampton have a squad full of extremely valuable talent.
The Saints suffered a torrid relegation from the Premier League last term, winning just two matches all season to become statistically the division’s second-worst ever side, scoring one more point over 38 games than the infamous Derby County side of 2007/08.
This led to a number of their highest value players leaving in the summer, with the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Tyler Dibling and Aaron Ramsdale all moving on to pastures new.
Despite that, the South Coast outfit still have a number of talented operators within their camp and will hope to use them for a promotion push this season.
That hasn’t appeared to be the case during the early portion of the 2025/26 campaign, with Will Still’s side sitting 17th in the standings at the point the October international break started. Southampton had won just two games in that time and have already drawn on multiple occasions, leaving them a way off the pace.
Adam Armstrong excelled for the Saints during their last season in the second-tier, scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists en route to promotion.
The forward has already found the back of the net a few times this season, which has led Football League World to compare his valuation with other members of the Southampton squad.
Despite being a proven goalscorer at the Championship level, Armstrong isn’t listed as one of Southampton’s top five highest valued stars.
According to Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old has a market value of £8.7 million, which is bettered by five members of the Saints’ squad.
Cameron Archer and Shea Charles are both valued at £10.5 million, whilst Flynn Downes’ should apparently command £11.3 million.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Finn Azaz top the ranking, with valuations of £19.2 million and £13.9 million respectively.
Although Armstrong isn’t listed as one of Southampton’s top five most valued players according to Transfermarkt, he could end up being their most important player this season.
The Saints have struggled to win games during the early stages of the current campaign, with their total of five draws the division’s highest at the point of the October international break.
One way of turning those stalemates into victories is by scoring more goals, a feat which Armstrong has proven to be extremely capable of in the past.
His 37 goal contributions last time out in the second-tier were crucial in taking Southampton to the play-off final, where the forward netted the winning strike to secure the South Coast outfit’s Premier League status.
