Derby County have some incredibly valuable players in their squad after a strong summer.
Derby County boast some household names with incredible values after their summer recruitment drive, and one of those is Carlton Morris.
Debates constantly rage around who a club’s best player is, and who might be worth the most were they sold today.
It’s not something anyone can be precise about unless a sale goes through, but through Transfermarkt’s estimated market values, which take into account a number of factors, we can gain a better idea.
Despite having former Premier League stars in their ranks, the player who takes top spot for the Rams may shock some.
Former Luton Town striker Carlton Morris was a marquee signing for Derby in the summer, who capitalised on the Hatters’ relegation to League One to attract one of their now biggest assets in John Eustace's side.
He was Luton’s figurehead through their promotion from the Championship, where he scored 20 goals in 2022/23, and through to the Premier League, where he remarkably notched double figures (11) despite being part of a struggling side, who were ultimately relegated.
It wouldn’t have been a shock had Morris stayed in the top tier after that season, but he dropped back down with Luton, before remaining in the second tier with Derby, making him a significant catch.
That experience in Derby’s current division and in the top tier, plus the fact Morris is still only 29 years old, gives him an estimated value of €5.5m/£4.7m; a significant sum, but only third on Derby’s list.
Ben Brereton Diaz has been considered a lower-end Premier League player in recent years, taking in stints with Sheffield United and Southampton, following earlier assignments in La Liga with Villarreal.
Brereton-Diaz made a name for himself with Blackburn Rovers, registering 22 and 14 goals in back-to-back Championship seasons at Ewood Park a few seasons ago.
But he’s not be able to make anything truly stick since then, and has ended up on loan at Pride Park after seemingly not being in Will Still’s plans, despite being signed by the Saints for £7m just last year.
All that top-level experience, plus dozens of international caps with Chile, has given Brereton-Diaz an estimated market value of €6.5m/£5.6m, albeit he is not an asset owned by Derby.
Derby’s most valuable player, according to Transfermarkt, is Patrick Agyemang, who signed for the Rams this summer from MLS side Charlotte FC for a fee that could rise to £7.3m.
An injury delayed the USMNT star’s start in the Midlands, but he soon got his Derby career started, registering an assist in his league debut, before adding another and a goal in the following four fixtures.
Still just 24 years old, Agyemang has the element of big future potential that will be boosting his value somewhat, as will his developing international career, with five goals over 12 caps for the United States.
Combine all those factors together, and you arrive at an estimated market value of €7m/£6m, which has almost doubled from his €4m/£3.4m estimate while still with Charlotte FC earlier this year.
With Derby’s entire squad value standing at €51.93m/£45.1m, Agyemang alone is getting towards making up towards 20 per cent of that value.
Should he have a good campaign for the Rams this season, as his start suggests he could, then Agyemang’s value could rocket even higher; a double win for Derby.
