The Spurs boss, though, made clear earlier in the campaign that he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club and is on track to do so again, which would take Tottenham back into the Champions League.

It has been two years away from the top tier of European competition from Spurs, who last season were away from continental football entirely.

Which Tottenham players will get a Europa League medal?

Should Spurs get the better of Man United on Wednesday night, there is expected to be a parade on Friday to celebrate the success.

The club will also have a decision to make on how they distribute the medals.

UEFA rules state that the winners of the competition will be given 50 medals, which they are allowed to give out as they see fit between players and staff.

There are no requirements in terms of minimum appearances, like in the Premier League where players must have featured at least five times to earn a medal.

It also means that Spurs players who are not in the Europa League squad and will not feature in the final are still likely to make the medal cut.

Fraser Forster, Antonin Kinsky, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin were not included in the 23-man squad Postecoglou named for the knockout stages of the competition.

They have therefore played no part in wins over AZ Alkmaar, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt, but could still take home a medal.
